World Bee Day

Today we celebrate bees and their invaluable contribution to maintaining our ecosystem. Bees play a vital role in pollinating plants, and we should do all we can to protect them.

Mrs Miller, Housemistress and Head of Food and Nutrition has kept bees at Sherborne Girls for over 10 years. She says ‘As well as providing delicious honey, bees are essential to help pollination of plants and flowers which they do naturally by moving between different species of plants whilst searching for nectar. We are very lucky to have wonderful wildflower patches across the grounds for them to pollinate. Over the years here at the School, girls have become apprentice bee keepers as part of their Duke of Edinburgh Award, learning about the craft of keeping bees as well as the important role they play in our environment’.
