Today, we introduce you to Mr Greed, Teacher of DT and 3D Design as well as Assistant Housemaster in Dun Holme.
Meet Mr Greed BA Hons (Falmouth)
“I was drawn to teaching as a profession in some ways by my love of schools as a community, and a full boarding school like Sherborne Girls is the pinnacle of this ideal. Everything being on one site creates a village-like feel, and the buzz that is felt from dawn until dusk is something truly special. Whether it is pupils navigating their way to a club or society, heading to music rehearsals or enjoying some down time on the tennis courts, there is always something going on, and you are met with an enthusiastic wave and conversation around every corner. Although best experienced in the summer, even in the depths of winter, there is something very cosy about meeting your tutees over a hot chocolate in the house lounge, or walking to a meeting and seeing a hive of activity going on in a classroom through a glowing window.
One of my roles is as an Assistant Housemaster in Dun Holme, and myself and the Housemaster, Mr Gent, place such an importance on the girls being able to see it as their home, not just a house. We have taken big steps to ensure that they have all they need to work, as well as unwind, whilst balancing the need for both private and communal space. It’s lovely to see a mix of year groups taking over the house lounge of an evening, to watch the latest episode of a series they’re all following, or up in the newly refurbished games room playing pool or chilling on the beanbags.
Also being a teacher of 3D Design places me in the Sherborne Girls community in another way, and the insights and understanding of our pupils that I gain from one aspect of my job fully informs the other. This allows me to provide even more effective pastoral care, as well as a greater personalised learning experience and support in the classroom.
When asked by visiting parents and guardians what I think makes Sherborne Girls special, these points always form part of my answer. I don’t think we can take for granted the all-encompassing and nurturing environment we all create, and it should be celebrated at any opportunity.”
