On Tuesday, we held a Joint Schools’ Leadership Conference with Sherborne School to inspire and equip our Sixth Form with the skills to lead confidently, following the success of last year’s event.

Throughout the day, our pupils took part in a range of lectures and activities, with the aim of each session to help them understand the importance of working in a team, to learn, to compromise and to be adaptable. They listened to inspiring talks by both internal and external keynote speakers, including current parents Hugo de Salis, Business Consultant at Lepanto Consultancy Ltd, Scott Armstrong, Pilot for the Air Ambulance and Mark Bunting, Business Consultant, whilst also taking part in interactive teambuilding sessions.

Putting leadership into practice, two of our U6 girls helped to run one of the sessions. Maddy and Vicky write ‘We discussed how to build successful teams and the role that a leader played in this with a particular focus on communication. After designating a team leader, teams were challenged to build a paper bridge that could hold up to six glue sticks. The task was met with great enthusiasm, and it was very interesting for us to observe the different styles of leadership the L6 adopted, and the many different bridge designs created. After the task, we reflected on leadership within the team and highlighted some strengths and areas for improvement. Overall, the day was a huge success and we found it very valuable to have been given the challenge of leading our peers and to be able to put our knowledge of leadership into practice. I hope that the L6 enjoyed gaining some knowledge on leadership and are inspired to deliver similar sessions in the future.’
